BLACK SPRING 2016

During our Awami art collective project titled Black spring where we took months to understand the Taxali area of old Lahore and lay a mammoth yet elegant web of  lights in mapped clusters of homes /rooftops in Taxali, the lights outlined the entire Taxali sky and I was standing on one of the rooftops with a guest from abroad on the opening of the project, I pointed to her the other side of Taxali , the current Lahori old food street, where posh restaurants’ and rooftops satisfy the locals and the tourists, I told her “ I am sure someone will take you to that famous restaurant on the other side where heritage is displayed at its best” and just then a friend of hers came and said “ we have been invited for dinner in that restaurant” our project the black spring was a commentary on the orange-line (transportation) plan that would run though many heritage sites through the city  and the banned basant ‘kite-flying festival which was born by the rooftops in Taxali through centuries, a colorful Lahori sky in spring is a dream come true for any Lahori but has been banned in lahore since some time now.
